Add Google’s +1 button to your wordpress blog!

Okay, so some of you may have noticed I have added the Google +1 button to my blog posts, and here’s how to do it:

Please note, this does NOT affect wordpress auto-updater as you do not edit any wordpress files.
Also, you need to allow wordpress admin to edit theme files – If you do not know how to do this, ask your server administrator/hosting company.

So, first we need to go to your WordPress dashboard, Appearance and then Editor:

Then we need to find “Header” or “header.php” on the right hand side of the page.

Find the following line in the file:

Enter this row down, and insert the following above:

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js”></script>

It should look something like this…

Now all you need to do is edit the Index, Archive and Single Post pages to have the following line of code wherever you want to show the +1 button:

<g:plusone size=”small” href=”<?php the_permalink(); ?>”></g:plusone>

If you have any questions, please ask in the comments below.

Thanks,
Niall (:
